New Business
1. Homer announced that Lopers had $1351.00 in the account at the
time of the meeting.
2. The Lopers Running Club has had eight new members join since the
last meeting. 27 memberships total.
3. Gary commented that the by-laws encourage community involvement.
Lopers need to be active in the community events like Healthy Active
Klamath (Patty Case at the Oregon extension office). Gary mentioned that
he was going to contact Chip Massy at the chamber to let him know what
we are doing. He also suggested that the Lopers consider becoming
involved in the local Relay for Life to help get the Lopers name out
there and that it is also a great cause to be involved in, and possibly
the Junior Achievement "bowl-thon". Most of the JA teams are about 4-5
member teams.
4. Jeff commented that the Lopers might consider a weekly run where
persons could meet and do a variety of distance training runs (5k & 10k)
geared to meet the individual at "their ability level" and grow from
there. A club is not a club unless people are involved. He suggested
that the runs could be geared to prepare new and old club members to for
upcoming races and to improve their running form and run times as well
as build new relationships. All people are a little more willing to do
something if they know someone is counting on them. Jeff will begin to
get things organized and will have more to report by the next Lopers
meeting. We will also be looking into possible discounts for being a
running and walking club member. Eric Wakkuri was going to look into
possible discounts at OIT.
5. It was brought up that there was not a system in place for
people to find out about upcoming events in and around the Klamath
Basin. It was suggested that the race directors assume the
responsibility of getting those fliers out to the local businesses.
Some of the businesses that were suggested were the Ledge (Mike
Angelina), The Daily Bagel (Donna), The Ella Redkey Pool (Valerie
Franklin),Harbor Isles (Brody), and finally The Herald & News. It was
stressed how important it is to get that information out to the public.
A possible liaison between the Lopers and race directors could possibly
assist in making sure the information gets out. A possible generic
information sheet was suggested and Gary said he would put something
together and have it ready by the next Lopers meeting.
6. Homer suggested that the Lopers bi-laws would need to be revised
as they were a bit out dated; he also stated that new board members
needed to be elected and then asked for volunteers. Scott Murchison,
Chad Elbert and Jeff Sparks all agreed to one year terms.
7. The name change for the Lopers was tabled for at least one year.
8. John Osborne volunteered to assist with the development of the
Lopers web-site. Homer is going to contact John to get things started.
9. The topic of a new design logo was brought up. A couple ideas
were suggested but nothing was decided on. Homer suggested that a new
design could be made as a promo made on a nicer quality shirt and offer
them at the local races. Possibly put it out on blog-site as a contest
(give us your best idea for a new Lopers logo).
10. John Sarabia (race director for The Winter Wings) announced his
race would be held on February 15, 2009 at Miller Island Game Refuge
starting at 2:00pm. A table would be set up to promote the club. A few
members would also be on hand to help John.
11. Ron Baker requested assistance with his Bonanza Fun Run at the
end of July in Bonanza. It was agreed that the Lopers time clock and
help with the race would be made available. It was also mentioned that
the Lopers would attempt to get involved with the Mazama Mud Run (up to
300 participants) on the third Tuesday of September. As well as the
Pelican Flight, Bob Freirich, and finally the YMCA triathlons.
12. The Crater Lake Marathon was mentioned by Homer. It was agreed
that Homer would talk to Bob and work on an exit plan for when he is
ready to stop running it himself.
13. Race day packet pickup: The race director will determine the
packet pickup location.
14. Lake of the Woods race: Someone needs to talk with Tom Hotman
and see if they need assistance or something else from the Lopers.
15. Gary's Dream: Moore Park Trail Run? Will contact Lillian about
land access and the beginning steps to make it a reality.
16. The topic of a new Lopers meeting place was discussed and Deanna
said she is happy to have us stay at the Jungle Gym. Gary mentioned
that the Pelican Bay conference room could be available if needed.
Scott suggested that He would ask if the lower section of the court
house would be available and let everyone know by the next meeting.
The meeting concluded.
